This document plots the results of a 30 min version of Auditory Ensembles without distractors. In this task, subjects performed an auditory memory task in which they remembered a single pure tone (300 ms duration) over a delay of approximately 6 seconds. This delay was chosen such that it was matched in overall time to the version of the task with distractors. Subjects remembered the first tone of the presentation. Participants reported which of two test tones they heard at the beginning of the trial (i.e. 2IFC) using the v (first) and n (second) keys at the end of each trial. The foil varied randomly within a block to be either +/- 2 semitones , +/- 4 semitones, +/- 6 semitones from the target. There was an ITI of 3000 ms.
In the 3_3 - 3_8 versions, we found that subjects were not reliably above chance in performing the task despite increasing the distance between the target and foil to be +/- 6 semitones from the target by the final version. This version of the task removed the distractors to get an idea of what the baseline performance would be on the task without distractors, and get a feel for whether foil distance manipulations actually matter.
Note: No error bars yet! Subjects who had a d’ of less than .1 after collapsing across all conditions were excluded, which is (much) lower than we typically like but was frankly necessary given the performance on the task. Extreme RTs (>2 sd above mean RT) were excluded from the sample.
